Google Launches Android App Web Store

Today Google launched the Android web app store. Previously, you could only find apps on your Android device through the Android Market App. Now, with the new web app store, you can browse apps from your web browser and install them with one click.

The install from a web browser is pretty cool and easy. Just click on install, sign in with you google account and it will magically be downloaded and installed on your phone. Google has spent some effort to make sure it is easy and effortless to install apps from the web.

While this is great news for the Android platform, finding apps isn’t that much easier or improved from the App version of the Android market on your Android device. You can search by category along the left side of the screen and then browse each category but there are so many apps it is not the most efficient process. You can also search with the search bar at the top of the screen but we found the results to be average at best.

In any case, the new Android app market on the web is a great step in the right direction and the one-click app installs are awesome! We look forward to see what additional improvements Google makes with the Android market, you can be sure they are working on them already.

Here are the direct links for the two GoAruna Android apps.

A Whopping 46 Android Tablets Announced for 2011

Here come the Androids, the Android tablets that is.   At CES 2011, there were a whopping 46 (yes forty six) Android tablets and e-readers announced by 27 manufacturers.  We predicted over 30 Android tablets to be announced but we were on the low side.  Even the 46 announced is likely on the low side as many manufactures will have several models and sizes to add to their tablet lineups in the coming year.

This is great news for innovation in touch computing and tablet format.  It is likely that this first wave of Android tablets will be playing catch up with Apple’s iPad, but that will change over time.  Soon, Google will release the official tablet version of the Android operating system and we will see another wave of devices and innovation.

2011 is shaping up to be an exciting year for the tablet and it will be interesting to see who the handful of winners are who will produce the best Android tablets to take on the almighty iPad.

Below, you will find a list of some of the Android tablets announced at CES 2011.  (list data is originally compiled and posted by Boy Genius Reports, thanks to them for this information.  They also have a full list of 100 tablets with all operating systems.)

GoAruna has released the first Android tablet file manager and online file storage app.   If you don’t have GoAruna yet, it allows you to store, manage and share all your documents, files, photos and media anytime, anywhere and on any device.  You can get a free online storage account here.

Mobile Cloud File Manager for Android – Update

It has been a while since we posted an update on GoAruna Files for Android.  Not because there has been nothing going on but because we have been busy delivering updates and improvements.  Since the last blog update, we have delivered six update releases.

We are very happy with the progress on the GoAruna Android file manager.   That said, there is always ways to improve and we intend to do just that.  Android is quickly becoming one of the most popular smartphone platforms in the world now and we are continually investing in improving the app to provide you an even better experience.

We may not be posting every last detail about every release here but rest assured, more Android cloud file management innovation will be coming your way soon.  We also love to hear your comments and suggestions so please share them so we can improve even more.

If you don’t yet have GoAruna Files for your Android phone, check it out for yourself (or any of our other file management apps), you can download it from the Android Market.  It is free and you won’t regret it.

6 Million Android Phones a Month are Now Sold

Today the CEO of Google, Eric Schmidt revealed that they are now activating 200,000 new android devices EVERY DAY.  That is 6 million new Androids per month and 73 million new Androids per year.  While impressive, we think there is still a lot of room for growth.  Android is simply killing it.  It is getting hard to keep track of every handset from every manufacturer on every mobile provider in every country.  There is simply too many.

Another factor at work here is the commoditization of the “smartphone”.  Now the cost is coming down very quickly so hundreds of millions of new customers can now afford a smart phone instead of the “feature phone” they had before.

We are glad our investment in Android is paying off.  We welcome all you new Android users and invite you to try the best Android file manager, media manager, Android player and cloud storage app available today.

We are very proud of GoAruna Files for Android and invite you to compare against the competitors, we don’t think there is a more complete solution out there.

You can download the GoAruna Android file manager from the Android Market.  Oh, and of course it is free.

Larger online cloud storage space and the capability for bigger files has finally arrived.  We know many of you have been waiting and the wait is over.  You can not store up to 50 gigabytes of files and have files that are up to 2 GB in size.  (Larger accounts will be coming as well)

Over the last weeks we have been testing our subscription service accounts and payment systems.  Our premium service comes in the form of a subscription, this makes it easy to understand and predict costs for both individuals and businesses.  Currently, we are starting with three levels:

The levels offer differing levels of storage and you can choose according to your needs.  We have also invested in making sure that it is easy to move between different plans.  You can easily upgrade and downgrade as you wish, we don’t want to lock you into anything.

In addition, we are offering a 14 day free trial for all subscription plans.  You can try the service for free for 2 weeks and if you don’t like it you don’t pay anything.

We also offer you the opportunity to save some money and give a discount for those who want to pay yearly instead of monthly.  You can choose monthly or yearly at the time of upgrade or signup.
